States, Territories and Country Protocols

Part 1 of the handbook sets out how Australia is divided up: six states and two mainland territories, each with a capital city of its own.

The same section covers two ceremonies that sound alike but follow different rules: a Welcome to Country and an Acknowledgement of Country.

This lesson works through the counts, the eight capitals, the largest and smallest states, the first British colony, the state and territory markers such as Bass Strait, and the rules governing each protocol — with ten practice questions spread through it, one or more after each point.
